Welcome back. The Michael Jordan slab buy rating series moves to 1991. The idea here is to apply a statistical model to rate how worthy each slab is of buying. Of course all ratings deserve individual scrutiny to discern if the model passes the sniff test for any particular card, but on the whole, I’m convinced it’s a great starting point to identify cards that might not be viewed as they should.

Quick recap on how this all works. There are four key factors that are going into this rating. I played around with it and for now this seems pretty logical. Here they are with their weightings on the final Buy Rating. Sales are as of early/middle February so a lot of these ubiquitous slabs will have more recent ones.

  • Dollar value vs grade higher (lower for PSA 10) (20%)

  • Pop + pop higher (40%)

  • Gem Rate (15%)

  • PSA total population (25%)

We move to 1991. Getting so close to the glorious insert age. But today we have the subsets that walked so inserts could run. 39 cards and we’ll go through them quickly because - quite frankly - we are still in the junk wax age in a ridiculous market so my advice on these cards is SELL SELL SELL.

Except for a couple we’ll get to at the end. Anyway I’m just going to print these out for you to browse through. And by the way - I realized my formatting with the multiple splits resorted the cards a little. Fixed that up so it’s not confusing as we venture into years with boat loads of cards. So from here on, you’ll be seeing worst “buy” cards first and they’ll get better every row down.

Let’s hit it.

Shouldn’t be too surprised to see all these PSA 10s with awful ratings during this… well… bull market. Lots of red in the pop-based metrics in this ultimate junk wax era.

Good time to part with any of these guys. Let’s move on.

No card was sent in more for grading in 2025 than that baseball UD SP1. You could part with any of these as well in my opinion with maybe the exception of that AW4 Hologram at the bottom. Pop 428, but can’t imagine any new ones coming in again.

Mostly the same story for this next batch.

And now for the top-10. To this point - no slab is a recommended buy, but that changes for a few 1991 slabs at the top of this list.
